Church Founders officially organized West Alameda Community Baptist Church in 1951 and purchased land and buildings at 5701 W. Alameda Avenue. A little "sprucing up" was needed for the old turkey barn that was located on the property, but it served as a temporary sanctuary until 1958, when ground was broken for a new church building nearby. These church buildings housed:
 |
- The first Jefferson County Library
- "Pirates Cove" (in the basement) for students of Alameda High School
- A day-care center for community children
- A community wellness clinic

In 1968, church members responded to a community-wide survey that revealed a need for housing for low-income seniors in Jefferson County. They took up this challenge and formed Jeffco American Baptist Residences to explore ways to build senior housing. The inability to obtain zoning for newly purchased land at 1st and Wadsworth nearly ended their mission. In 1971, Rev. Dean Painter, Jr. became pastor of the church and gave new life to Jeffco American Baptist Residences and its mission of building senior housing.
After two zoning lawsuits (eventually heard by the Colorado Supreme Court), a six-year search for funding, a grant from the State of Colorado, and a complex real estate transaction for the present site including the Church's sale of its land and church building, ground was broken for Eaton Terrace Residences (ETR). During the construction phase, arson nearly destroyed the old church building. Services were held in a nearby mortuary until ETR was completed, where the church began leasing the "Centrum" for its services.
A few years after ETR opened, Jeffco American Baptist Residences was awarded the contract to become one of the Colorado Housing Authority's "Pilot Projects" and opened Eaton Terrace II Assisted Living Center in 1988 - before "assisted living" was part of our vocabulary.
Both communities continue to provide housing and supportive services for low-income seniors and we serve over 190 residents at each community annually.
